Chateau Montaiguillon

Château Montaiguillon Montagne Saint-Émilion 2020, Bordeaux, France

£13
The best Merlots tend to be initially bold on the palate before giving way to a deeper complexity in flavour. Montagne-Saint-Émilion certainly falls into this category, balancing a deep and textured taste with a smooth, silky and easy drinking experience. The nose is extremely rich and attention-grabbing, combining vanilla sweetness with earthy oak. On the palate, the wine offers the sensation of deep fruits, including blackberry, cherry and plum, with hints of butter and tobacco. Light acidity and a medium finish complete a hugely appealing package.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Château Montaiguillon covers some 28 hectares in the Bordeaux region. The vineyard is owned by the Amart family, who initially took ownership back in 1949. Michel Rolland acts as an adviser for the business, but Chantal Amart has managed the empire for over 20 years now. The vineyard itself overlooks the Barbanne stream, as well as sharing vicinity with a range of other territories. This plum placement ensures that only the very finest, mature grapes are used in winemaking at Château Montaiguillon. This commitment to quality shines through once the produce is sampled.
